Rules for 2003 Season
Horseshoe Mountain Raceway


 

This is an intermediate 6 and 8 cylinder class for drivers with some racing experience. This class allows for minor suspension modifications but no engine modifications, keeping it a low-budget class. These vehicles have the potential to be modified and used in the Street Stock class.

Wheelbase

Minimum of 101"; Maximum of 119".

Measured from center of the bearing in the front wheel to the center of the half-shaft in the rear wheel.

May use cars or station wagons (no trucks or convertibles).

The vehicles may be either front or rear-wheel drive. No 4 or all-wheel drive.

Exterior

Remove all glass, plastic, lenses, door handles, mirrors, chrome trim, moldings.

All doors must be welded.

Hood and trunk must have at least two (2) pins each for easy, emergency access and fly-off security. Remove main and secondary catches from the hood; remove the lock from the trunk.

Stock body panels. No fiberglass body panels.

Stock firewall.

Add tow points front and rear. This is a chain welded or bolted to the frame at two points.

Wheel wells may be cut to help eliminate wheel rub.

Engine

No modifications of any kind to the intake manifold, valve train, ignition, heads, camshaft, pistons, bore, con rods, crankshaft or exhaust manifolds. Engine internals are to be as the motor came from the factory.

No aftermarket or factory performance parts to be used; must be parts that came stock from the factory for that engine displacement. No factory race motors or crate motors. Altered engine internals of any kind will force the car to be classified as a Street Stock.

Complete engine swap to a different displacement permitted. Must be an engine that was available in that vehicle for that year.

Carburetor may be rebuilt to correct for altitude. Choke may be removed.

No fuel injection, turbochargers or superchargers of any type.

Mufflers and catalytic converters may be removed.

Tires, Wheels, Studs and Brakes

Maximum 7" width stock DOT-approved steel wheel.

Maximum 7" width tire.

No mud-only tires. No snow-only tires. DOT-approved street tires only. Tech inspector reserves the right to reject a tire if the tread is deemed to be too aggressive.

Must have 9/16" wheel studs on right side.

Must have 4 (four) working brakes; 1 (one) brake per tire.

Driveline

Safety chain or metal strap bolted or welded to underside of car to loop around the drive shaft to help prevent shaft flyoff.

Transmission must have a working reverse.

No modification to the transmission valve body or torque converter (if using an automatic).

Rear axle gears may be changed.

Rear axle may be welded or locked.

Interior

Remove all carpeting, headliner, rear-seat(s), mirrors and anything else which may be flammable.

Dashboard should be removed if it is made of plastic or composite materials. Metal dashboards may be left in place.

Rear bulkhead must be covered to maintain a barrier between trunk and driver's compartment.

Stock seats may be used.

All holes in the firewall and floor must be plugged of covered. May have (2) ½" holes in floor pan for drainage.

Must have a 2½ lb fire extinguisher in reach of the driver.

Roll cage

Must be a six-point cage minimum with the end points of the cage securely welded directly to the main vehicle frame rails. If a uni-body chassis, end points of the cage must be welded to a steel plate inside driver compartment and bolted to chassis hard point or another steel plate under the car.

The cage must be made of minimum 1 3/4"diameter by .095" wall thickness bar.

If using pipe metal for the main bar, weld joints must have a gusset or triangulation. If using one continuous main bar, no gusset or triangulation required.

No tail-pipe bar permitted in roll cage.

Must have a minimum 3 (three) cross bars: two in the roof; one across behind the driver at the middle of the seat. If a dashboard has been removed, a fourth bar must be added in its' place.

Must have at least one (1) diagonal bar for roll-over protection. Preferred if there is an X-bar instead of one diagonal.

Minimum two (2) braces, top to bottom, in front window. Must be ½" shaft or larger.

Driver's door must have a minimum of 3 (three) door bars with two interconnecting vertical bars between each horizontal bar.

Passenger door must have a minimum of 2 (two) door bars with two interconnecting vertical bars between each horizontal bar.

Must have a brace in the foot well made of minimum 1 1/3 inch x .095. Brace should be left of the driver's feet.

All bars that a driver can touch from the driver seat must be padded.

Driver Safety

Must race with a fitted, DOT-approved racing, motorcycle or 4-wheeler helmet (no bicycle helmets), neck brace, and eye protection.

Must wear a fire suit. Nomex gloves, racing shoes, and Nomex underwear are recommended.

Must have at least a 5-point racing harness.

Must have a race-approved window net in driver's window.

Must have mesh screen of some type in front window.

Battery and Fuel Tank

Battery may be secured in the original location under the hood. Battery may be moved into the rear seat area as long as it is secured in a battery box which is secured to the vehicle.

If using a metal box, the battery must be insulated all around.

Must have a battery disconnect switch within reach of the driver. The switch must be able to shut the car off when all other switches are on.

Stock fuel tank must be removed. Must use a fuel dispensing unit, such as a racing cell or marine tank.

No fuel storage units used as tanks.

Tank must be securely mounted in the trunk with straps or bands.

May use mechanical or electric fuel pump with roll-over switch.

Fuel cell is recommended.

No alcohol, av gas or nitrous assist. Pump fuel only.

Suspension

Must use stock suspension pickup points.

No adjustable or coil-over shocks.

One shock per wheel.

No weight jackers.

Car Number

Number must be on both driver and passenger doors.

Number must be on roof, facing towards the passenger side of the car.

Number must be at least 18" tall.
